Terry Waite opens care home at Richmond Letcombe Regis
Richmond Letcombe Regis

Former Lebanon hostage, Terry Waite, today officially opened the care home at our project at Letcombe Regis, Oxfordshire, for Richmond Villages.

In performing the official duties, the 71-year-old former Church of England envoy was extremely positive about the development.

“For five years I was homeless, so to see these incredible facilities is magnificent," he said.“I write an article for a monthly elderly magazine and am concerned about the welfare of people, so to see what’s on offer in Letcombe Regis is stunning.

“If we do have developments in our rural areas, we want them to be good developments, and this is. The community are heavily involved and can use the spa and restaurant — not to mention the jobs it will create.”

The 51-bedded care home provides 24-hour nursing care and specialist dementia care. It sits at the heart of the village, which is set in landscaped grounds that include lakeside gardens and a nature reserve. The development also includes 34 Village Apartments, which are suited to those who live independently but like the idea of being in a safe and sociable community where care and assistance is available if needed, and 23 assisted living apartments for those who still want their own front door but who require some help with day-to-day living. Amenities include a restaurant, café, IT room and library, craft rooms, a bowling green, and a wellness spa with a swimming pool, gym, health and beauty treatment rooms and a hair salon.
