Castleoak has appointed its first Environmental Manager to focus our green strategy.
Miles Thomas, 28, will bring together the environmental improvements being made across our UK sites and offices under a comprehensive environmental strategy and management system. He will cover all areas of the organisation, from the Group’s head office to its timber frame factory and all 13 Castleoak construction sites across the UK.
Reporting into the Head of Construction, he will also advise on environmental issues including building design, product development, waste management and sustainability.
According to Castleoak MD, Colwyn Knight, this newly-created position is extremely significant, recognising the Group’s commitment to environmental issues at a time when many construction businesses are holding back from creating new positions.
“Being greener is an absolute priority, both environmentally and commercially. We have steadily been making improvements throughout the business, but wanted to make our efforts more focused, cohesive and strategic,” he said.
“While all colleagues are responsible for environmental improvements, it is only by making it someone’s designated responsibility that a structured framework for improvement will happen across the Group. It’s a mark of just how important we think it is that we are choosing to make this investment at a time when so many companies are cutting expenditure to the bone.”
Miles is a Swansea University graduate and gained a Masters in Sustainable Environmental Development from the University of Glamorgan, spending five years providing support to adults with learning disabilities. He joins from ARENA Network, where he spent four years providing environmental management consultancy and training services to a broad range of organisations.
“Improving environmental performance at Castleoak is not just about our construction sites, but also our offices and manufacturing unit too. There is a clear opportunity to make a big difference to the environment, to business performance by reducing waste, and to the care sector by setting high standards,” he said.
