Colwyn Knight, Group Innovation Director

col

Having successfully completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter and joiner in 1979, Col established Castleoak with his late father and younger brother, Mel, in 1984. He has always been closely involved with sites, having operated as Managing Director of Castleoak Care Partnerships for more than 25 years. This continues with his present role as Group Innovation Director, where he focuses on issues such as quality, product improvement and our environmental strategy. He also has overall responsibility for Castleoak Timber Frame and plays an important role in staff engagement across the Group.

Colwyn has been a champion of the partnership method of construction management, and had introduced many of the ideas advocated in the groundbreaking report published in 1998 by Sir John Egan (Rethinking Construction), long before they became fashionable. He has been instrumental in the company’s pursuit of the Lean Construction agenda and its commitment to modern methods of construction, especially its use of timber frame.

In 2007, Colwyn received a Leadership Award from Construction Skills in Wales for his contribution to Castleoak’s development.

He is married with three grown-up children and lives in Raglan, Monmouthshire. His many hobbies include coaching junior football and playing bass guitar in a local rock band.
