Castleoak secures £45m framework contract

We have secured a £45M contract to design and build ten care homes in Suffolk for leading care operator, Care UK.

We had joined with Care UK, one of our longstanding customers, to bid for the provision of care home services previously operated by Suffolk County Council. The consortium beat off competition from several other bidders to secure the contract, which has seen the operation of 16 care homes and eight wellbeing centres transfer from Suffolk County Council to Care UK.  These will be replaced over the next three years with ten, purpose-built care homes all designed and built by Castleoak and subsequently operated by Care UK.  Six care homes will have places for 60 residents and four will have places for 80 residents.  Each have a wellbeing centre for use by the residents and people in the community surrounding each home.

Castleoak is responsible for the planning applications for each project and four have been submitted so far. Construction work on the first new care homes is targeted to begin in May 2013 in Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich and the remaining projects will follow on in a phased programme.  The timber frame structures for each home will be manufactured at our Ebbw Vale factory.

Castleoak Chief Executive Mel Knight says partnership and specialist experience were key to securing the contract.

“We work solely in the care sector, and have done for the best part of twenty years,” said Mel Knight, Castleoak Group Chief Executive.

“Our involvement in large reprovisioning programmes in Hertfordshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, plus our strong relationship with Care UK, a leading operator with ambitious growth plans, meant we had a strong offer.

“The contract is the outcome of a truly collaborative approach with Care UK, with each organisation fusing our respective skills, experience and capability to win the contract with Suffolk County Council.

“To have ten projects confirmed in this competitive and tough climate is obviously really good news and these, together with our other pipeline of development and design and build projects, give us an excellent trading platform for the next two years.”

Castleoak are currently delivering four other care home projects for Care UK in Kidderminster, Stratford upon Avon, Newbury and Stansted.
