Maintaining standards in lockdown

What do you do when you have three annual quality certifications looming and you’re all scattered around the country in lockdown?

For our HSEQ team, it meant assembling a virtual taskforce to crack all three in a matter of weeks.

They were joined by our off-site design and manufacturing teams plus our construction team to deliver the required recertifications alongside our partners, SGS UK Ltd. On Thursday they got the good news that we were successful in achieving:

  • full ISO 9001 (Quality) re-certification audit across our off-site manufacturing and construction businesses
  • CTF FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)/PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) annual surveillance audit (chain of custody certification)
  • ISO 45001 (Health & Safety) annual surveillance audit

Working through the process remotely wasn’t totally without its challenges.

“We did all three different audits purely on Microsoft Teams for the first time and used SharePoint to share documents with our auditors,” said Stuart Dominy of our HSEQ team.

“We would not normally have more than one audit taking place at the same time but, because of COVID 19 and auditors’ diaries, it fell that way. And, of course, the auditors would normally visit our offices, factory and construction sites – plus we had two who were new to Castleoak. But we all collaborated to make it work and our documentation was even more critical in the absence of visits.”
