WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE CONSTRUCTION SITES SAFER

Thank you for your continued support and commitment during these challenging and unprecedented times.

As you know, we took the decision to keep our sites open and operational during lockdown.  We did this for several reasons, including:

  1. we believe that we have a responsibility to continue our work on behalf of customers, many of whom take care of some of the most vulnerable people in our society, as this pandemic has shown; and
  2. we are confident that continuing production will give us all the best chance of sustaining our sector through this extraordinary time, keeping our people in jobs and giving our supply partners like you the best chance of sustaining productivity and jobs too.

In planning our approach through the COVID-19 situation we are being very clear about our responsibilities to our people, our customers, your business, as one of our supply chain partners, your employees, and to the communities in which we are both working.  We believe we have been clear about these responsibilities to you throughout the events, and we will continue to be clear with you about how we are managing our sites.

The Construction Leadership Council recently published specific Site Operating Procedures (SOPs) for this time. It provides the template for how our sites must operate. It is clear and we are following it in the same way that we would a legal obligation. I am attaching a copy for your reference. Much of it you will already know and, hopefully, none of what it sets out will surprise you.

I am also attaching our revised induction document we use for all new starters on site: this gives you a more succinct summary of our position and the guidance.  I would urge you to study the documents, so you are clear about how we are seeking to operate our sites during this period.  If you have any questions regarding these documents please do not hesitate to contact me or Sion Rees, our MD, Construction: this is not a time for anyone to be in any doubt about what is or is not permitted on sites, so please seek clarification if you have any doubts.

Thank you again for your ongoing support, for all your hard work and for your understanding during this time – all of which is greatly appreciated, not just by me and all my colleagues here, but also by our customers and the UK Government, who have specifically thanked all of us working in the construction and manufacturing sectors.

Just in case you or your teams haven’t seen the Business Secretary’s open letters of thanks to us all  in construction and manufacturing, I have attached these too. Please don’t hesitate to contact me, or Sion Rees, our MD, Construction if you would like to discuss anything further or we can help in any way.  We are here to help and wish to work with you at this difficult time.
